The Latest on Financial Technology – Live from Finovate 2014 NYC!
I’m very excited to be at FinovateFall in NYC today, where there is record attendance! Financial technology innovations from startups and well-established companies alike are being showcased. Recurring themes this year seem to be security in payments, financial planning and next generation payments.
Each of the 70 participating companies has only seven minutes to pitch a demo and impress the audience. So far, there have been some very cool pitches. Here are a few highlights from today:
- iQuantifi: This company proudly calls itself the only true robo-advisor. Geared towards young adults and millennials, the virtual financial advisor provides goal-based advice that can be updated as life changes occur. Its interface incorporates these goals, along with debts and policies, as well as specific investment recommendations to help with planning—all on a mobile app.
- Gremln: The growing overlap between financial services and social media has led to compliance issues. Gremln helps financial service companies participate in social media (LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook) while staying compliant. They ensure compliance on these platforms for companies adhering to SEC, FINRA, FFIEC and HIPAA regulations.
- Dynamics: Next generation credit cards are here. Dynamics manufactures and products intelligent credit cards. They’ve produced a line of smart cards with advanced security features like smart chips and built-in blue lights for Tim Horton’s in Canada. Their new ePlate card also allows users to change which rewards they receive online.

Overall I’m impressed by the creativity here this year. Take a look at the full list of FinovateFall 2014 presenters for more fintech innovations.
